The NGO has been collaborating with 'Samarskaya Guberniya' fund, which in turn received money from the US company Alcoa in 2013–2014. The ultimate source of funding was, in fact, the Russian metallurgical plant bought by Alcoa, that had joined forces with 'Samarskaya Guberniya' for their veteran support program, e.g. organisation of celebration events and gifts for the veterans. Many link the prosecution of the NGO to its conflict with Governor Merkushkin due to its publication on his alleged involvement in misuse of public funds.
