On 13 May 2022, Sorochkin was stopped by traffic police officers because he had a poster in the colours of the Ukrainian flag with the inscription "No to the shameful war" pasted on the rear window of his car. He was informed that on 8 May a criminal case was opened against him for discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Before that Sorochkin was four times brought to administrative responsibility under a similar article of the Code of Administrative Offences. On 31 May, Sorochkin's home and workplace were searched. The court ordered him to ban certain actions.
Later it became known that a new case under the same article was opened against Sorochkin because during the search he was found a poster with the inscription on a yellow and blue background "for the ruins of Mariupol we have piled Ukraine with corpses". Sorochkin tried to leave Russia but was detained. On 10 July, the court placed him under house arrest. Then the cases were merged.
On 20 September, he was sentenced to a fine of 200,000 rubles.
