We spent more than 14 years providing legal aid and protecting dissidents in Russia. Since being designated as an ‘extremist’ organisation, we can no longer work with lawyers inside the country. But we continue to offer legal advice and produce practical legal guides. We also continue to document repression, conduct research, and raise awareness. Through exclusive data and expert analysis, we help you peek behind the new Iron Curtain.
We have temporarily suspended the delivery of essential supplies, food, medicines, as well as our letter-writing initiative through Vestochka.
We have temporarily suspended our advocacy campaigns against repressive legislation and our public campaigns in support of people facing political persecution.
In the darkest hour for Russian democracy, we ensure that Russians are not left facing the system alone. We provide legal aid and free consultations for dissidents across the country. We analyze emerging issues to develop tactical solutions and lay the groundwork for future systemic change. We raise awareness of human rights violations through our unique expertise. We engage thousands of volunteers in critical tasks and continuously expand our community. We support political prisoners through letters, deliveries to prisons and medical assistance.

We collect data from open sources and partner human rights organisations. We carefully verify and cross-check this information, and we regularly update our datasets. We publish only the minimum figures that we can confirm with complete confidence.
Our funding primarily comes from you—small donors who feel like they want to contribute to Russians’ struggle against authoritarianism.
You can support us here if you are not in Russia and do not plan to travel there. Otherwise, because of our designation as an extremist organisation, doing so may be unsafe
