In Moscow, a mother of a miner has been detained for the 17th time this year after staging a solo protest demanding assistance for her son.

Security officers have detained Vera Shikhova, the mother of a miner, outside the Prosecutor General’s Office. She regularly holds solo protests demanding social support for her son. Shikhova’s detention was reported by OVD-Info. This is the 17th time this year she has been detained for protesting.

16:48 Shikhova was released from the police station without having a report drawn up, she told OVD-Info herself.

• Alexander Shikhov was injured in an accident at the Ziminka mine in Kemerovo Region, Siberia, in 2010. He sustained spinal fractures, a traumatic brain injury, torn ligaments in his knee, and a hernia.
• Shikhova’s son has also suffered a stroke, and later developed brain damage. The former miner has not been reimbursed for his medical expenses and does not receive any financial support due to his loss of ability to work.
• For several years, Shikhova has staged solo protests seeking social support for her son. Her actions often end in detention.
