In Novosibirsk, a major city in Siberia, eight people were detained after they came to lay flowers in memory of Alexei Navalny. The detainees themselves reported this to OVD-Info.

Residents and activists of Novosibirsk gathered to lay flowers in Narymsky Square, where a monument to the victims of political repression is located.

Among those detained: Elena Shuvalova, Antonina Khornikova, Alexey Pinigin, Maksim Grigoryev, Svetlana Kaverzina, Elena Yun, and Sergey Volkov. They were taken to the police station for the Oktyabrsky district.

14:05 RusNews reports that one of those detained suffered a hypertensive crisis in the police van.

17:00 The activists have been released from the police station. No protocols were drawn up against them. This was reported by Vasily Dubkov, a lawyer with OVD-Info.

  • 4 June is the birthday of opposition politician Alexei Navalny. On 16 February 2024, Navalny died while in the Polar Wolf maximum security penal colony.
