The Second Western District Military Court in Moscow has sentenced a 25-year-old resident of Smolensk to three years in a penal colony for comments in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and for a video about the activities of the USSR during the Second World War. This was reported by Smolnarod, citing the FSB press service.

The name of the convicted person has not been disclosed; he is 25 years old. According to information on the court’s website, the sentence was announced on 28 May. He was also banned from administering websites on the internet for a period of three years.

The man was found guilty under articles on the justification of terrorism on the internet (Part 2, Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code) and on spreading knowingly false information on the internet about the activities of the USSR during the Second World War (subparagraph “v,” Part 2, Article 354.1 of the Russian Criminal Code).

According to the investigation, the young man expressed support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in his comments, approved of drone attacks on Smolensk Oblast—a region in western Russia—and the incursions of sabotage and reconnaissance groups into Bryansk Oblast. In addition, he was accused of publishing a video on one of the social networks that “compromised the activities of the USSR during the Second World War and denied facts established by the Nuremberg Tribunal.”
