The Oktyabrsky District Court in St Petersburg has remanded local resident Alexandra Maroti in custody on charges of hooliganism (Part 2, Article 213 of the Criminal Code) and desecration of the state emblem (Article 329 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the city’s United Press Service for the courts.
The 24-year-old suspect requested a different pre-trial restriction.
Maroti was detained on 16 June over a video showing the burning of a Russian passport. In the video, the woman said on camera that she decided to burn the document because she was tired of work. She added: “All right, come and get me.”
A friend of hers was also present. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that he too has been detained on criminal charges, and the authorities are charging both young people with group hooliganism. It was not reported whether any pre-trial restrictions had been imposed on him.
