A criminal case has been opened against a resident of Ulan-Ude, a major city in eastern Siberia, who climbed onto the monument to participants of the Civil War, on charges of desecrating a symbol of military glory (Part 3, Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code), reports the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Buryatia.

The woman, born in 1995, climbed onto the monument to Red Guards and partisans who died on 2 March 1920 in the battles for the liberation of Verkhneudinsk. She sat on the neck of one of the sculptures and shouted: “I’m awesome!.” Three of her friends were nearby.

Police subsequently detained all four. The woman who climbed the monument said on camera: “I was drunk, I apologise to everyone, I really, really regret this.”
