Police visited activists at their homes in Yekaterinburg, a major city in the Urals region, after security forces decided they were linked to the Yekaterinburg Confederation of Anarchists. The activists themselves reported this to OVD-Info.

The reasons for the security forces’ visit are unknown.

16:12 Security forces detained one female activist but soon released her. This was reported in the “Union of Maoists” Telegram channel. “Police are looking for another comrade. Apparently, they are going round addresses where he is allegedly staying,” the authors of the post suggested.

The person the police were looking for might already have been detained. In another post, the “Union of Maoists” noted that there was no contact with the activist.

26 June It has emerged that the security force visits in Yekaterinburg were connected to the Yekaterinburg Confederation of Anarchists (KAE). An activist, who asked to remain anonymous, told OVD-Info about this.

The police detained three people who they considered associated with the activities of the KAE. Two of them were released and reported torture: they were beaten, their arms were twisted suddenly causing acute pain, one was left with a bruise under his eye, they were threatened with death, fingers were nearly broken, and they were driven “into the woods.” One of the activists also told OVD-Info that, according to the security forces, the visits and detentions are part of a preliminary investigation under the article on “organising an extremist community” (Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code).

The detained activists had their phones confiscated, and one apartment had its door damaged.

The fate of the third detainee is unknown.

Earlier, it was reported that security forces had visited activists from the “Union of Maoists.” However, it later became clear that the visits and detentions were linked to the activities of the Yekaterinburg Confederation of Anarchists. The headline has been updated.
