On 24 June, the Yurginsky City Court in Kemerovo Region sentenced Maryana Oorzhak to a one-year suspended sentence under the article on spreading “fake news” about the Russian army presented as reliable information (Part 1, Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). The court’s press office reported this to OVD-Info.

As stated in the case card on the court website, Oorzhak’s case was submitted to the court at the end of May this year. According to the press office, the judge delivered a one-year prison sentence but applied the article on suspended sentences (Article 73 of the Criminal Code) and replaced the real sentence with a suspended one.

Oorzhak was also given a one-year probation period, with conditions not to change her place of residence and to report to the criminal-executive inspection.

However, the press office declined to comment on the grounds for opening a criminal case against Oorzhak.

“The verdict concerns the Armed Forces and the direct participants in the ‘special military operation.’ Such verdicts are neither published nor covered. In any form whatsoever,” the court told OVD-Info.
