The Vytegorsky District Court has fined a 19-year-old resident of Vytegra, a town in the Vologda region in north-west Russia, 30,000 roubles (approximately US$340) under the charge of failure to report a crime (Article 205.6 of the Russian Criminal Code). This was reported by the joint press service of the Vologda region’s courts.

The verdict was handed down on 25 June. According to the court, in 2024 the young person did not inform law enforcement about the “unlawful activity” of an acquaintance who was preparing to commit a terrorist attack (Part 1, Article 205 of the Criminal Code) and participating in the activities of a terrorist organisation (Part 2, Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code). The case also features a second defendant, who likewise did not tell the authorities about their friend’s plans.

It is likely that the friend referred to in this case is Anton D. from Vytegra, who was sentenced in December 2024 to eight years in connection with a case involving leaflets, graffiti and plans to set fire to a military recruitment office. According to reports, as a minor, the young man carried out various tasks for the “Freedom of Russia” Legion.
