The administration of Correctional Colony No. 15 in Samara, where 26-year-old Tolyatti resident Polina Yevtushenko is being held in the detention centre, has declared her a “regime violator.” This was reported by SOTA, citing the detainee’s relatives.
The young woman is now prohibited from describing court hearings in her letters, and the authorities have promised to escort her to court under military police guard.
In July 2023, Yevtushenko was arrested on charges of preparing to commit state treason (Article 275 with Article 30(1) of the Russian Criminal Code) after she allegedly tried to persuade a Samara resident to join the “Freedom of Russia” Legion. Later, she was also charged with calling for terrorism (Article 205.2(2)) due to her posts about the Legion. In September, Yevtushenko also faced additional charges of financing terrorism (Article 205.1(1.1)) and calling for extremism online (Article 280(2)).
In March 2024, a final indictment was presented: it included charges of spreading “fake news” about the Russian army out of hatred (subparagraph “d,” Article 207.3(2)) and rehabilitating Nazism (Article 354.1(4)).
In May of the same year, it became known that the case against Yevtushenko was initiated after a tip-off from 36-year-old Samara resident Nikolai Komarov, whom she had met six months before her arrest. The man himself initiated the acquaintance and wrote to her on VKontakte. He asked her many questions about the “Freedom of Russia” Legion and recorded their conversations.
That same month, the young woman was sent to solitary confinement for nine days because she turned off the television 10 minutes later than allowed. In September, Polina Yevtushenko reported that she was not receiving medical assistance in the remand centre—she had suspected she had pneumonia. She was later transferred to a prison hospital after all.
Yevtushenko’s seven-year-old daughter, Alisa, remains at liberty.
