A 42-year-old resident of Kemerovo will face trial over a comment made under a post about the “Immortal Regiment” parade. This was reported by the Investigative Committee for Kemerovo Region.
According to investigators, on 9 May last year, the woman left a comment “insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland” under a news article stating that more than 100,000 people in Kuzbass had taken part in the Immortal Regiment march. The Kemerovo resident has been charged with “rehabilitating Nazism using the internet” (Part 4, Article 354.1 of the Russian Criminal Code).
“The woman did not admit guilt in committing the offence, but did not deny that it was indeed she who left the comment,” stated the Kuzbass Prosecutor’s Office.
The case has been referred to the Kemerovo Regional Court for consideration.
According to the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office, the woman had previously been held liable under the article on “discrediting the Russian Armed Forces” (Part 1, Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences). At the time, she was fined 30,000 roubles (approximately US$330). What triggered that case is unknown.
17:58 The SOVA Research Centre clarifies that the defendant’s name is Yulia Tikhonova. The project suggests that she posted the comment in the “Kemerovo” community on VKontakte under the username Sara Milaya, writing: “Why carry corpses on a stick?”
Yulia Tikhonova received the administrative fine due to comments in other VKontakte groups: “Kuzbass Incident,” “Arguments and Facts/aif.ru,” “Typical Kuzbass,” and “Gazeta.RU.” The decision was handed down by the Central District Court of Kemerovo on 16 September 2024.
