Postgraduate student at the Alferov University, Vladimir Mironov, who was convicted over breaking windows and leaving anti-war graffiti on a military enlistment office building, has been released from a penal colony, reports RusNews.
Mironov was serving his sentence at Correctional Colony No. 5 “Metallostroy,” which is located in St Petersburg.
Security forces detained the 25-year-old postgraduate student in February 2023. Before that, an enlistment office employee had reported to the police that, during the night of 26 February, windows had been broken on the first floor of the building and protest slogans against the “special military operation” had been left on the facade. According to Baza, Mironov wrote on the wall: “No to war,” “Stop killing” and “How much longer will you keep killing?”
On 28 February, the court sent the postgraduate student to a pre-trial detention centre. He was charged with hooliganism (Part 2, Article 213 of the Criminal Code) and “discrediting” the army (Part 3, Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code).
In July 2024, the Vyborg District Court in St Petersburg sentenced Mironov to four years in a general regime colony. On appeal, his sentence was reduced by eight months. The postgraduate student partially admitted guilt and compensated for the damages.
