The Central District Military Court has sentenced a resident of Kamyshlov, a town in Sverdlovsk region in the Urals, to a fine of 400,000 rubles (approximately US$4,600) over charges of inciting terrorism online (Part 2, Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code), reports the court’s press service.

They have also been banned from administrating websites and online channels for two years.

The criminal prosecution arose from the man’s comments “on one of the video-hosting platforms” in support of the “Freedom of Russia” legion, which is fighting alongside the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The court press service noted that the man opposes the war in Ukraine.

It is likely that this refers to Ivan Redko, a resident of Kamyshlov, who was added to Rosfinmonitoring’s list of “terrorists and extremists” in August 2024. His name was marked with an asterisk, a designation for individuals involved in cases under terrorism articles.

According to the case file for Redko on the court’s website, the sentence was handed down on 16 June and entered into force on 2 July.
