In the city of Artyom, in Primorsky Krai in Russia’s Far East, police carried out a preventive conversation with a seven-year-old boy who had climbed onto a memorial to those who died during the Great Patriotic War (Second World War). This was reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“During monitoring of social media, police officers identified a post about a minor walking on the slabs of a memorial to soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic War, where the names of Artyom residents who died are inscribed,” the department wrote.
In addition, an administrative protocol was drawn up against the child’s legal guardian for improper performance of duties in the upbringing of a minor (part 1, article 5.35 of the Code of Administrative Offences).
- In recent years, there has been a severalfold increase in criminal cases concerning the desecration of Second World War monuments. The vast majority of such cases are launched over various actions by citizens at the Eternal Flame monuments: dancing, cooking food, and so on. You can read more about this in an OVD-Info report.
- For example, in June in Krasnodar Krai, a region in southern Russia, the Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case after 13- and 14-year-old schoolgirls pulled flowers out of a flowerbed and scattered them around the Eternal Flame memorial.
