The Meshchansky District Court in Moscow has arrested political analyst Yekaterina Shulman in absentia. She is being prosecuted under the article on violating the rules governing “foreign agent” activity after having already faced administrative penalties (Part 2, Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the united press service for the city’s courts.
In March it became known that Shulman had been placed on the wanted list.
In April 2022, the Ministry of Justice listed Yekaterina Shulman as a “foreign agent.” Just a few days before this, she left Russia. The Ministry of Justice claimed that the political analyst had received “indirect foreign funding” through Russian organisations—specifically, the radio station Echo of Moscow and the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (“Shaninka”). Subsequently, Shulman was fined several times under the article for failing to add “foreign agent” labelling to her publications (Part 4, Article 19.34 of the Administrative Offences Code).
“Mediazona” writes that neither Shulman nor her lawyer was officially notified about the initiation of the criminal case.
