The Supreme Court of Tatarstan has fined a teenager from Kazan, a major city on the Volga River, 40,000 roubles (US$440) for “rehabilitation of Nazism” (Part 4, Article 354.1 of the Russian Criminal Code), after he attempted to extinguish the Eternal Flame. This was reported by Tatar-Inform.

The case was opened in November last year. A video of the teenagers was posted by the “Kazan to the Max” Telegram channel. The footage shows four teenagers warming their hands and playing around at the Eternal Flame. At the end of the video, one of them throws snow on the flame, which then goes out.

Three of those involved in the incident were under 16—the minimum age of criminal responsibility for this offence. They recorded video apologies.
