The Investigative Committee has initiated a case against a 51-year-old resident of Leningrad Region on charges of organising the activities of an extremist organisation (Part 1, Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code), announced the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee on 29 July.
According to the investigation, the woman continued the activities of an organisation that was recognised as extremist by the Samara Regional Court on 16 June 2022. At that time, the court banned the 'Interregional Public Organisation “Citizens of the USSR"'. The SOVA Research Centre noted that this 'Citizens of the USSR' group is also known as the 'Novokuibyshevites' and was one of the largest such associations.
A search was conducted at the woman’s residence, and she was subsequently detained as a suspect. The Investigative Committee was planning to petition for her arrest.
In June, in Kurgan Region in the Urals, there were mass searches and detentions as part of a case related to involvement in the same 'Citizens of the USSR' organisation.
