Andrey Lugovoy, convicted under the case of so-called military “fake news,” was placed in a punishment cell (SHIZO) at Penal Colony No. 8 in Kaliningrad. This was reported by the project “Politzek-Info.”
The prisoner spent a week in the isolation cell and was released from it on 24 July. The exact reason for his placement there is unknown.
In addition, not all letters addressed to Lugovoy are being delivered to him, and some of his own letters are not being sent to the recipients.
In September, the Svetlogorsk City Court of Kaliningrad region sentenced Lugovoy to six years in a penal colony over charges of military “fake news” published out of alleged political hatred (clause ‘d,’ part 2, article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). According to the court, in 2022 the man, while in Pionersky (a town on the Baltic coast), posted “fake news” in a messenger app about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces and state authorities related to shelling on the territory of Ukraine, killings, and crimes against civilians. Lugovoy did not plead guilty.
In December 2023, security forces carried out a search at the man’s registered address in the town of Pionersky, where his grandmother lives. On the same day, he was detained in Svetlogorsk, and then sent to a pre-trial detention centre (SIZO).
This is not the first case of pressure on the prisoner. Previously, it became known that Lugovoy was not being given essential medication and was being denied a visit from a cardiologist. Because of this, the activist went on hunger strike. Earlier, while in the pre-trial detention centre, the man was not allowed to receive drinking water or to wash for a month, and he was also sent to a punishment cell.
