A resident of Tula region has received a suspended sentence over a comment about “Russians who support the special military operation.”

On 23 July, the Novomoskovsky District Court in Tula region sentenced a local resident to one year and nine months' suspended imprisonment in a case concerning incitement to extremism (Part 2, Article 280 of the Criminal Code). This was reported to OVD-Info by the court.

The individual was also given a two-year probation period and banned for the same term from administering websites or posting statements and other materials online.

The prosecution was triggered by a comment on Telegram, published in September 2023. The court concluded that the man had called for criminal acts motivated by hatred against “Russians who support the special military operation.”

Previously, the court’s press service stated that the defendant opposed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Before the sentencing, they were under a travel ban.
