The 2nd Eastern District Military Court in Chita today delivered a verdict against Igor Ikryanov, a resident of Novosibirsk region, on charges of justifying terrorism on the internet (Part 2, Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) and failing to report a crime (Article 205.6 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the pro-Kremlin agency TASS, citing the press service of the Novosibirsk branch of Russia’s FSB.
The man from Siberia was sentenced to a fine of 360,000 roubles (approximately US$4,100). He also received a two-year ban on posting comments online.
Ikryanov’s case was submitted to the military court at the end of June, according to the court records. According to the investigation, the man was “a former member of far-right and nationalist movements and organisations” and also “an opponent of the ‘special military operation.’”
The court found Ikryanov guilty of posting a comment on Telegram. In this comment, the Siberian man allegedly expressed support for the shooting of a car belonging to an FSB lieutenant colonel, as well as an attack by a Ukrainian group on Russian soldiers in Bryansk region, western Russia.
In addition, according to the FSB, Igor Ikryanov communicated with a native of Novosibirsk region who, after the war in Ukraine began, became the head of a structural unit of the “Russian Volunteer Corps.” The RVC was designated a “terrorist organisation” in Russia at the end of 2023.
“Ikryanov received messages and video recordings from him [the head of the RVC unit], containing information about the organisation and the nationalist’s involvement in the activities of an illegal armed group, but concealed this,” the FSB added.
This episode was considered by law enforcement as “failure to inform the authorities about a terrorist.” TASS notes that the verdict against Ikryanov under the charge of failure to report a crime is the first of its kind in Siberia, a major region in Russia’s east.
