The Kudymkar City Court in Perm Krai has sentenced a 70-year-old local woman to 250 hours of community service in a case involving financing the Ukrainian church “Vozrozhdenie” (“Revival”). This was reported by the court’s press service, as noted by Mediazona.

The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, was found guilty under the article for financing an “undesirable organisation” (Part 2, Article 284.1 of the Russian Criminal Code). The verdict was delivered on 28 July.

According to investigators, from 2022 to 2024 she transferred a total of about 200,000 rubles (about US$2,100) to accounts belonging to the Ukrainian religious centre Vozrozhdenie (“Revival”).

The court considered as mitigating factors her admission of guilt, remorse, health condition, as well as her transfer of funds to the public organisation “Yusva District Organisation of Veterans of War, Labour, the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies.” According to the court, the funds transferred will be “used to help participants of the special military operation and to prepare materials for weaving nets for the special military operation.”

  • The Vozrozhdenie Spiritual Centre is a religious organisation founded in 1997 in Ukraine by televangelist Volodymyr Muntyan. It has branches in several CIS countries. In 2013, the All-Ukrainian Union of Churches issued a statement urging caution regarding Muntyan, describing the centre’s activities as “close to the realm of occult practices.”
  • In November 2022, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation recognised the Vozrozhdenie Spiritual Centre and its foundation as “undesirable organisations.” The agency stated that their activities posed a threat to the constitutional order and security of Russia.
