32-year-old Krasnodar resident Georgiy Bugayets has been fined 500,000 rubles (approx. US$5,550) for posts calling for attacks on Russia’s leadership and the destruction of military aircraft. This was reported by the Krasnodar Region Prosecutor’s Office, as noted by Mediazona.
He has also been banned from administering websites and social media pages for two and a half years.
The Southern District Military Court found him guilty under the articles on incitement to terrorism (part 2, article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) and activity directed against Russia’s security (paragraph “v,” part 2, article 280.4 of the Criminal Code). The prosecutor’s office stated that in October 2022, Bugayets, “being an opponent of the special military operation,” posted messages in a messenger app “calling for attacks on the country’s leadership,” and in March 2023 called for the destruction of military aircraft in Krasnodar Krai, a region in southern Russia.
Mediazona notes that Bugayets’s case was sent to court at the beginning of June. When exactly he was detained is unknown.
