The Cherepovets City Court has fined baker Anna-Lilia Largus 10,000 roubles (approximately US$110) over posting an announcement for a protest against restricting access to abortions and the sale of alcohol in Vologda region, reports 7×7, citing local activists.
“A peaceful march was planned—to take posters, T-shirts, write some relevant slogans on them, such as against the ‘12-14 Law’, against the unofficial ban on abortions, against landfill sites,” a source told the outlet.
On 7 August, the court fined the activist under the protocol for organising an unauthorised action (Art. 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences). The reason given was three videos by Largus in which she talked about the planned march scheduled for 17 August. These were published on her VKontakte page on 1, 4 and 5 August.
In the first video, Largus spoke about safety measures before the protest. In the second, she said she had notified the city administration:
“That’s it, everyone, we’ve informed the authorities about the peaceful march. Just a reminder, on 17 August we start at 16:00 from Metallurgov Square. Of course, you’ll need to arrive a bit earlier.”
She also published her notification to the city administration. In it she stated that 30–40 people would take part in the march, who “intend to express their active civic stance by holding a peaceful march.”
In the third video, the activist said that local media would not cover the march, and suggested to her followers that they report on it themselves on their social media pages.
According to 7×7, Largus eventually cancelled the event planned for 17 August, but intends to hold it later.
Largus actively comments on events in Vologda region on her page and criticises the decisions of Governor Georgy Filimonov, who pursues a policy of restricting women’s access to abortions, and has allowed alcohol sales only during a two-hour slot each day.
