The authorities in Perm, a major city in the Urals, have withdrawn their own decision to permit the rally in support of a free internet. This was reported on the Telegram channel of the “Rassvet” party, whose activists organised the rally.

The rally was due to take place on 16 August at 87 Vedeneeva Street. The action was to be held under the slogan: “No to censorship! Yes to a free internet!” The Libertarian Party of Russia was also planning to join the action.

The Telegram channel of the Perm branch of “Rassvet” published a letter from the city administration explaining the reasons for revoking permission for the rally. According to the document, the decision was related to the spread online of messages and video announcements about the rally with aims different from those declared in the initial notification for holding the event.

“It is obvious that this step is a result of the mass appeal and popularity of our action, which is gaining momentum every day! We will continue the campaign for a free internet, agree on a rally where there is no COVID, and all further details will be announced later,” the “Rassvet” party commented on the authorities’ decision.
