The General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation has declared the activities of the German foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” (Stiftung Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft (EVZ)) “undesirable” in Russia, according to the agency’s Telegram channel.

The authorities’ statement says that the foundation originally worked on providing compensation to those affected by Nazi crimes. However, after 2022, it began organising fundraising in support of Ukraine and created a “solidarity budget” to meet the needs of Kyiv. According to the agency, these activities are aimed at “violating the territorial integrity of Russia,” “escalating armed confrontation,” “radicalising society” and “fostering Russophobia.”

EVZ was established in Germany in 2000 to provide payments to victims of Nazi crimes. The foundation later began supporting humanitarian and human rights initiatives, including in Russia. In 2024, funding for Russian programmes was discontinued, and in 2025, the Russian representative left the foundation’s Board of Trustees.
