The Nyandoma District Court in Arkhangelsk Region has replaced the restriction of liberty for environmental activist Radik Adnobaev with compulsory labour for a period of four months and 15 days. This was reported by his OVD-Info lawyer, Sergei Tikhonov.
According to the court’s decision, 10% of the man’s salary will be withheld for state revenue.
The penal inspection service filed a request to replace the sentence with real imprisonment after Adnobaev missed a registration visit to the office.
In September 2024, Adnobaev was fined 140,000 roubles (approximately US$1,500) on charges of repeated 'discrediting the army' (part 1, article 280.3 of the Criminal Code). He was also sentenced to one and a half years of restriction of liberty under the article on intentionally causing harm to health that is not life-threatening (part 1, article 112 of the Criminal Code).
According to the court’s decision, the environmental activist cannot change his place of residence without permission and must report once a month to the penal inspection office. The prosecutor requested a fine of 200,000 roubles (US$2,100) and one and a half years of restriction of liberty for Adnobaev.
In the case regarding discrediting the army, Adnobaev is accused of several posts which, according to investigators, he published from October 2022 to February 2023. One of the publications was a speech by Joe Biden about the war in Ukraine and Adnobaev’s approving comment.
The criminal case regarding bodily harm is linked to a conflict with pro-war activist Igor Gusakov. According to Adnobaev, in August 2023 in Kargopol, a northern Russian town, Gusakov provoked a conflict and began attacking him. Adnobaev pushed him away, after which Gusakov filed a police complaint. The defendant maintains that he acted within the limits of necessary self-defence.
