In Yekaterinburg, a major city in the Urals, a criminal case has begun over the financing of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (part 1 of article 282.3 of the Criminal Code) against Mikhail Volkov, the father of opposition politician Leonid Volkov. This was reported by a Meduza correspondent from the Kirov District Court.
Volkov Sr is accused of making two transfers of one thousand rubles (about US$11) each, in August and September 2021. He has admitted guilt.
A search in connection with this case was conducted on 3 April. After questioning, Mikhail Volkov was released under a travel ban.
As Meduza writes, during the search at the home of Leonid Volkov’s parents, a poster in his support was seized—a poster with which Leonid’s mother, Susanna, held a solo picket in Yekaterinburg in the winter of 2018, when her son was serving administrative detention.
Mikhail Volkov is 69 years old, a mathematician and professor. In February, he was dismissed from Ural Federal University, where he headed the Department of Algebra and Fundamental Informatics, because of his son’s activism.
- In June, Leonid Volkov was sentenced in absentia to 18 years in prison. He lives outside Russia.
