The sentence for a resident of Angarsk, convicted of “inciting violent acts against a Russian public official,” has been toughened. This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of Irkutsk region, as noted by “Mediazona.”
In February, the 2nd Eastern District Military Court fined the 39-year-old man 400,000 roubles (about US$4,300) under the article on justification of terrorism online (part 2, article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) because of a comment made on Telegram. The prosecutor appealed the verdict. Now, the Military Appeals Court has replaced the fine with a sentence of five years in a general regime colony. He has also been banned from administrating websites on the internet for three years.
“Mediazona” suggests this is about 39-year-old Stepan Makarov. His name appears in the “list of extremists and terrorists” maintained by Rosfinmonitoring, with an asterisk marking, which indicates prosecution under a “terrorist” article.
