Enver Seit Osmanov, sentenced to 17 years in the case concerning alleged involvement with Hizb ut-Tahrir, has been placed in a punishment cell (SHIZO) at Penal Colony No. 16 in Salavat, a city in the Republic of Bashkortostan in the Urals. This was reported by Crimean Solidarity.
The length of his stay in the punishment cell and the reason for it are not specified. The report also says that the Crimean Tatar is experiencing tooth pain, but otherwise his condition is satisfactory.
In December 2019, Seit Osmanov was sentenced to 17 years in a strict-regime penal colony, with a further year of restrictions on freedom, on charges of leading the activities of a terrorist organisation (Part 1, Article 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code). He was transferred to Penal Colony No. 16 in 2020, where he has repeatedly been placed in a punishment cell.
- Enver Seit Osmanov’s brother, Enres, was sentenced in May 2023 to 18 years in a strict-regime colony in connection with a case on alleged involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir. He was found guilty of organising the activities of a terrorist organisation (Part 1, Article 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code) and preparing to violently change the constitutional order (Article 278, with Part 1, Article 30 of the Criminal Code). On appeal, the court reclassified the charge under the article on terrorist organisation activities to a less severe part on participation (Part 2, Article 205.5). As a result, his prison term was reduced to 17.5 years.
