A criminal case has been opened against a 62-year-old resident of Yoshkar-Ola, a city in the Mari El Republic in central Russia, for allegedly financing extremist activities (Part 1, Article 282.3 of the Russian Criminal Code). This was reported by the press service of the Mari El Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to investigators, in 2021 the individual in question made two donations to a non-profit organisation, knowing that it was recognised as extremist in Russia. In total, the man sent 2,000 rubles (about US$22).
The Ministry of Internal Affairs did not specify the name of the organisation. It is likely referring to the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK).
The case has been transferred to the Yoshkar-Ola City Court. The man is under a travel ban and required to maintain appropriate behaviour.
