In Moscow, Yulia Melnychenko, a resident of North Ossetia, was detained outside the Prosecutor General’s Office when she staged a solo protest because the authorities had refused to open a criminal case against police officers who had beaten her brother. She reported this herself to OVD-Info.
The woman stood protesting with a placard that read: “The prosecutor’s office must protect citizens’ rights, not violate them. Stop the repression!”
Melnychenko was taken to the Tverskoy District police station.
14:15 OVD-Info lawyer Nataliya Tikhonova set out to assist the detainee.
15:40 Melnychenko was released without a report being filed. She herself informed OVD-Info of this.
The news headline has been corrected because it mistakenly stated that the detainee was from Moscow.
