The 1st Western District Military Court has begun hearing the case of 73-year-old elderly woman from St Petersburg, Nina Akimova, who is accused of inciting terrorism online (part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code), reports “Mediazona.”
The prosecution was prompted by two comments under a post published in August 2019 in the group “Russia is everywhere there are Russians.” The post contained a video of protesters being detained at rallies in Moscow.
In reply to another user’s approving comment, Akimova wrote:
“WATCH OUT YOU DON’T CHOKE ON YOUR OWN HATRED! IT’S THE KREMLIN—JEWISH GANG WIPING RUSSIA OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH THAT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH!!!”;
“TO TURN THE SOVIET UNION INTO SUCH SHIT, A LAUGHING STOCK TO THE WHOLE WORLD, THAT’S WHY WE WON’T LET THEM LEAVE, WE’LL STRANGLE THEM LIKE RATS!!!”
The case against the elderly woman was opened after a statement from her former supervisor, the head of the medical service at the Military Institute of Physical Culture, Roman Sarvadia, notes “Mediazona.”
According to Akimova, he went to the FSB because of a conflict between them. Previously, she had sent complaints to the prosecutor’s office requesting an inspection of the medical service’s work. One of these inspections found violations.
Initially, the elderly woman fully admitted guilt, but in court she changed her position, partially admitting guilt. She said that at first she “did not fully realise what she was doing.”
“I admit that I expressed myself negatively and inappropriately. But I didn’t mean anything by it, I was just expressing my opinion,” she said in court. Akimova added that by “Kremlin-Jewish gang” she meant former “RUSNANO” head Anatoly Chubais and businessman Roman Abramovich, and by the word “deal with” she meant “fight.”
After Akimova was detained, no pre-trial restrictions were imposed. During the investigation, she donated several thousand rubles (US$30–50) to “support participants of the special military operation.”
In February, the elderly woman was fined in an administrative case for inciting hatred (Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences). The protocol was drawn up over several comments, one of which read: “I WISH SOMEONE WOULD STRANGLE YOU—PUTINOID VERMIN!!!.” The expert report found “signs of degrading the dignity of a group of people identified by their support for President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin” in her comments. At the time, Akimova told the court that she published the comments so that “the authorities would know the public’s opinion about certain shortcomings.”
Akimova worked as a general practitioner for over 40 years. She retired in 2022.
