A second criminal case has been opened against Vasilya Vershinina, an activist from Kamchatka in Russia’s Far East—this time over sharing the songs “The Internationale” and “The Warszawianka” on her personal Telegram channel. The media outlet Govorit NeMoskva reports this.

Vershinina has been charged under the article for incitement to terrorism (Part 2, Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code)—the investigation claims the lyrics of the songs amount to “calls for the violent overthrow of power.”

The activist is under house arrest in connection with a case related to her alleged involvement with the “Volya” party, established by conspiracy theorist Svetlana Lada-Rus.

  • Vasilya Vershinina had worked as a Russian language teacher at a school, but in 2024, she was dismissed. The reason: her videos allegedly contained “discrediting of law enforcement agencies.”
  • Prior to the single voting day, Vershinina took part in a campaign to gather signatures for the cancellation of the Kamchatka governor election. She joined calls to ban the incumbent governor, Vladimir Solodov, from standing for re-election; to scrap the municipal filter; and to cancel this year’s gubernatorial election as it was “non-competitive.” Vershinina also held solo pickets demanding Solodov’s resignation.
