A resident of Kaliningrad has been placed in pre-trial detention over seven donations to the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK).

A case on charges of financing extremism was initiated against Anton Zhigalov in early September because of donations totalling 2,100 roubles (about US$23).

He was detained on 22 October, and today a court ordered that he be held in pre-trial detention for two months, according to his lawyer, Roman Morozov, working with OVD-Info.

The previous day, the lawyer was denied entry to the temporary detention centre to visit his client, with officers demanding to see the warrant, even though it was listed in the detention protocol, which is grounds for access.

Earlier, despite direct orders from the judge, escorting officers refused to leave the room while Morozov and Zhirkov were reviewing case materials and having a confidential conversation, saying they needed “to make sure they’re not discussing possible escape plans.”
