Yury Neznamov, a defendant in the “Tyumen case,” is not receiving adequate medical care in remand prison SIZO-5 in Yekaterinburg. This was reported by the support group’s Telegram channel.
He is being given only a standard set of medications. This is not helping, and the young man’s health is deteriorating with each passing day. SIZO-5 does not have the necessary equipment for an accurate diagnosis, so the doctors are unable to determine what treatment is needed. Since summer 2024, Neznamov has approached the medical staff every month due to gastrointestinal problems, but no action has been taken. The pain prevents him from carrying out daily activities and from eating. He has been refused an examination in a civilian hospital. Moreover, he is not being provided with the dietary food he needs.
Neznamov also requires surgery for a papilloma on his right leg. A year and a half ago, while held in another pre-trial detention centre, he declined an operation on the advice of a surgeon. Now a different doctor has recognised the need for urgent surgery, but because of his previous refusal, the young man is not being allowed to start treatment. “A benign tumour can become malignant at any moment, so action should be taken without delay,” the support group writes.
- Defendants in the “Tyumen case” have reported torture and violence following their arrest. The anti-fascist community believes that they are being persecuted primarily for their anti-authoritarian views.
