The court handed a suspended sentence of three years to the 42-year-old musician on charges of financing extremist activity (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by Mediazona.

Sorshneva pleaded guilty. The case was opened against her over seven donations of 500 roubles (about US$5 each) to the Anti-Corruption Foundation.

“Asya immediately admitted guilt to the criminal charge and did not obstruct the proceedings; there were no violations in this case overall. As the experience was negative and exhausting, she is now recovering and has returned to making music,” Sorshneva’s husband told OVD-Info.

Sorshneva was detained in the summer and placed under house arrest. In September, she was fined 30,000 roubles (about US$330) in an administrative case for “discrediting the army” (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code) over an image with the words “No War,” which she posted on Instagram on 24 February 2022. In court, Sorshneva did not plead guilty and said she wanted to show that she stands for peace.

  • Asya Sorshneva is a graduate of the Gnessin Moscow Special School of Music and the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. She is a laureate of Russian and international competitions. Sorshneva has performed with orchestras led by Yuri Bashmet and Teodor Currentzis, as well as with foreign orchestras, and this spring took part in the American duo CocoRosie’s tour.
