The Zheleznodorozhny District Court in Ryazan has remanded former YA62.ru editor-in-chief Aleksandr Moyseyuk in custody, accused of financing extremist activity (Part 1, Article 282.3 of the Russian Criminal Code). His lawyer, Andrey Kuryatnikov, told OVD-Info about the decision.

The pre-trial restriction for Moyseyuk has been set until 16 April. He will be held in Ryazan pre-trial detention centre No. 1 (SIZO-1).

According to his lawyer, the criminal prosecution was prompted by a single donation of 300 rubles (approximately US$3.30) that the journalist made in August 2021.

Moyseyuk was detained on the morning of 17 February outside his home in Ryazan, a city about 200km southeast of Moscow, when he went out to get water. Shortly afterwards, the regional branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced his detention, without giving his name.

  • Last year, when Moyseyuk was still editor-in-chief, he was fined over news stories about calls from military recruitment offices and a fire at the local power station. The court ruled that the outlet had distributed knowingly false information (Part 9, Article 13.15 of the Administrative Code).
