In Chelyabinsk, security forces came to the home of a Maoism supporter because of a banner protesting the blocking of the messenger service. A friend of hers, who is also a supporter of Maoism, told OVD-Info about the incident.
Early in the morning on 29 March in Chelyabinsk, a banner was spotted reading: “Maoists: Russians need communication! No to blocking Telegram.”
At around 6:45 AM today, security forces came to the woman’s home, then took her to the police station. According to her friend, she was formally charged with holding an unsanctioned demonstration (Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences).
After that, the detained woman was taken to the Kurchatovsky district court.
Around 10 in the morning, security forces also came to her friend, who had contacted OVD-Info. They threatened to charge him with disobeying the police (Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences) if he did not open the door, but eventually left. Security officers also visited his mother at her workplace and demanded that she influence her son. In addition, police used the detained woman to convey that he was at risk of being arrested.
14:51 The detained woman was sentenced to ten days in jail, her friend told OVD-Info.
She specified that the woman was accused of organising an unsanctioned demonstration (Part 2, Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences).
12 April The second Maoism supporter who had been visited by security forces on 10 April was also detained. This was reported by the “Maoist Union” Telegram channel.
According to their information, the young person was detained by police this morning in Yekaterinburg, a major city in the Urals. Their current whereabouts are unknown.
Also today in Yekaterinburg, officers from Centre “E” came to another woman, whom the channel describes as a former Maoism supporter. Security officers told her that the detained person allegedly had explosives.
