Over the weekend, the musician reported that the head of household of one of the units at Samara’s IK-10 penal colony, Alexei Kryslov, poured hot tea on him and struck him on the head with a stool. Shabanov had his injuries documented at the infirmary.
According to Mediazona, the attacker is a former Russian servicemember who was convicted in Chechnya in 2024 for disobeying an order.
Kryslov has now been sent to a punishment cell (SHIZO) and removed from his head of household post.
However, the issue of restrictions on Andrei Shabanov’s rights remains unresolved. While in detention, the musician faces pressure from other prisoners. He is banned from sleeping on a bed and from using the kitchen, and is also threatened with beatings.
Furthermore, Andrei has a Category II disability. He has progressive psoriasis and arthritis. He has said that while imprisoned he is “rotting alive,” as he does not receive the necessary treatment.
