The Ministry of Internal Affairs has declared our colleague, OVD-Info analyst and former member of the Human Rights Defence Centre ‘Memorial’ board, Denis Shedov, wanted. The alert in the ministry’s database was first reported by Mediazona. There is no information yet on which article the case was opened under.
This is what Denis himself says:
“Declaring me wanted and opening a criminal case against me is yet another act of injustice and repressive use of the legal system in Russia. Sadly, there are now thousands of documented cases of politically motivated criminal prosecution in Russia. Many people targeted in such cases are deprived of their freedom and need our solidarity and support, as do their families. Letters, donations, drawing attention to those imprisoned for political reasons—these are concrete actions we can take to support the persecuted and resist repression right now.”
The persecution of Denis Shedov
In June 2025, the Ministry of Justice labelled Denis Shedov a ‘foreign agent.’ According to the ministry, he “spread false information about decisions taken by the public authorities of the Russian Federation and their policies,” and also participated “in the activities of organisations included in the foreign agents register.”
After this, Shedov was fined three times under ‘foreign agent’ legislation: for failing to submit reports to the Ministry of Justice and for not declaring himself as a ‘foreign agent.’ In February 2026, however, one fine for a missing report was overturned and the proceedings in that case were dropped.
