Zhanna Nemtsova has been placed on the international wanted list

The journalist and public figure Zhanna Nemtsova has been placed on the international wanted list in connection with a case of organising the activities of an “undesirable” organisation (part 3 of Article 284.1 of the Russian Criminal Code), RusNews reports. This became known during a session of the Moscow City Court, which upheld the decision on her arrest in absentia.

At the end of July, the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow ordered the arrest of Nemtsova in absentia. The case concerns the “Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom,” which the authorities labelled as “undesirable” in 2024. Nemtsova founded the organisation in 2015 after the murder of her father, the politician Boris Nemtsov. The foundation supports independent Russian-language media and provides scholarships to journalists, activists, researchers and human rights defenders.

Nemtsova also left Russia in 2015 after receiving threats.
