Voting has ended, but at some polling stations people tried to vote even after closing time, and at others, conflicts continued. Here’s what’s happening at the end of the third day of the elections.
Not allowed to vote
- In Moscow, long queues formed as polling stations were closing. Hundreds of voters didn’t manage to cast their ballots before 20:00.
- At the Moscow City Election Commission, officials said that anyone who arrived at the polling station before closing should be allowed to vote after 20:00. However, at several stations, people were forced to leave.
- At a polling station in Kommunarka, a suburb of Moscow where perhaps the longest queue in the city had gathered, a car arrived playing Noize MC’s song “Light Streak” at full volume. The song was played loudly from the car.
Obstructing observation of the count
An election observer was separated from the ballot counting area with painter’s tape. They were only allowed to stay behind a line marked on the floor.
Detentions and attacks
- In St Petersburg, a precinct commission member from Yabloko was detained after another commission member reported that she had said the word “war” in a private conversation.
- Another observer, after being detained, was returned to the polling station where the head of the territorial election commission attacked her: her phone was smashed, her documents confiscated, and she was left with scratches and visible marks from the use of force on her arms.
Placed on the military register
A Moscow resident reported that after voting via remote electronic voting, they received a notification on ‘Gosuslugi’ about being placed on the military register.
