Murmansk journalist Denis Zagorye has been declared wanted and named as a suspect in a criminal case.

Denis Zagorye, a journalist from Murmansk (a port city in the Russian far north), has been declared wanted at the federal level, Mediazona reported. It soon became known that a criminal case had been opened against him for failing to comply with “foreign agent” requirements (Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code) and for participating in the activities of an “undesirable” organisation (Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code). Zagorye collaborates with the Norwegian editorial office of the Barents Observer.

The Ministry of Justice added the journalist to the register of “foreign agents” in October 2025. After that, several reports were filed against him for violating requirements for “foreign agents.”

The publisher of the Barents Observer has been recognised as an “undesirable” organisation in Russia since February 2025. Zagorye has also been fined for working with the publication.
