Yury Dud has been arrested in absentia for the second time in Russia. The new case is linked to his interview with the head of the Russian Volunteer Corps.

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow has arrested journalist Yury Dud in absentia on charges of incitement to terrorism (Part 2, Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code), writes Mediazona, citing the press service of the Moscow courts. This is connected to Dud’s interview with the commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, Denis Kapustin, which was published in April, the Investigative Committee has confirmed. The Russian Volunteer Corps is recognised as a terrorist organisation in Russia.

After the interview was published, the head of the Investigative Committee, Aleksandr Bastrykin, ordered an inquiry into the journalist’s actions. The Investigative Committee stated that the interview contained “positive assessments of banned misanthropic ideologies” and signs of “promoting violent actions against people based on nationality.”

• Dud was first arrested in absentia in the summer of 2025 over a case concerning violation of the “foreign agent” requirements.
