Oleg Mikhailov, a former State Duma deputy from the Communist Party, has been added to Rosfinmonitoring’s list of “terrorists and extremists.” His name appeared on the agency’s website, as noted by RusNews.
Mikhailov was detained on 21 October in Moscow after returning from holiday. He is accused under the “terrorism” article (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). The Basmanny District Court in Moscow sent the politician to a pre-trial detention centre until 21 December.
The Communist Party believes that the reason for the criminal case was Mikhailov’s 2024 publication related to sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky, who was sentenced to five years in prison for “justifying terrorism” over a post about the explosion on the Crimean Bridge. State Duma Communist Party deputy Yuri Sinelshchikov pointed out that the persecution of Mikhailov began after he lost his parliamentary mandate—and with it, his immunity from prosecution.
Mikhailov leads the Communist Party branch in Komi, a region in north-west Russia. Until September 2026, he was a State Duma deputy. Previously, he was repeatedly fined for public actions, including after a protest against the construction of a rubbish dump at Shies station and for meeting with voters in Syktyvkar, the capital of Komi.
