Aidar Garifianov

Aidar Garifianov, along with three other residents of Bashkiria, was charged with participation in the activities of the organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (Party of Islamic Liberation), which was recognised as a terrorist organisation in 2003 at a closed session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, as well as with "preparation for actions aimed at forcible seizure of power, as well as forcible change of the constitutional order". According to the FSB version, in 2011-2012 the accused created a regional subdivision of the banned organisation in Bashkiria and were engaged in recruitment of supporters and organisation of pickets, meetings and conferences to promote the ideas of their organisation, as well as distribution of propaganda materials with calls "to overthrow and change the social and political order by armed means". Charges under part 1 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation were brought on 8 November 2012. A preventive measure in the form of remand in custody was chosen. Due to changes in the CPC, the defendants were released in March 2013 (at the same time, the court ignored their legal request to change the measure of restraint for two months). On 26 August 2013, a case was opened under part 1 of article 30, article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, merged with the previous one. On 27 May, the defendants were again remanded in custody. On 9 April 2015, he was sentenced to six years in a strict regime colony.
