Alexey Shubnikov

Alexey Shubnikov is a Group I disabled person (https://www.jw-russia.news/en/prisoners/shubnikov.html) - he has been confined to a wheelchair since the age of 16.

Alexey was born in June 1982 in Nizhnevartovsk, Tyumen region. He has a younger brother and sister. For some time his family lived in the town of Langepas (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra), and in the early 2000s moved to Krasnodar Krai and settled in the village of Vyselki.

In childhood Alexey was active. He liked skiing, went to a wood carving class, was often outdoors with his parents, went fishing, went to the forest for berries and mushrooms. The whole summer the family spent at the dacha. But then tragedy struck: the young man fell from a tree and received a serious spinal injury. This affected his entire future life. Still, despite the physical limitations, he was able to get a diploma of accountant-economist. Being on disability, Alexey does not work. He lives with his parents and still likes fishing, being outdoors and discovering new places.

In 2008, Alexey joined the Jehovah's Witnesses.

In February 2022 he became a suspect in a criminal case on extremism because of his participation in Jehovah's Witnesses.
