He was detained on July 7, 2020, and later taken into custody on charges of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization due to his alleged involvement with the Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which has no connection to terrorism. On August 24, 2021, the case was returned to the prosecutor’s office because the materials had not been transcribed in Braille - another defendant, Aleksandr Sizikov, had lost his sight in a car accident.
